Do you see it too?

When you look around at the world it's easy to find things that separate us from each other like race, creed or sex. To see a single being, something to behold as a total sum of all parts what unifying thing do we have? For me, it's a picture of the world from space. The pale blue dot? no, no, it's a picture of our cities from near orbit. We appear to be like a bio-luminescent organism latched on to a small crevasse at the bottom of the ocean, one of these things 'never before filmed' from some nature show with scuba divers who so carefully swim about without touching anything, worried about what just the light from their photography gear will have on this fragile organism...and here we are, in the vastness of the universe on a tiny insignificant spec in the middle of...well, nothing. Looking at the earth from space I can comprehend that on the surface of this planet there 'is' something...perhaps just a chemical reaction that's been going on for who knows how long. The unifying thing that is unavoidable for all of us is the fact that if the world was to explode one day- we'd all die, every single one of us. If a space 'scuba diver' were to swim by in our galaxy a take a couple snapshots for the folks back home, I think everyone on this planet would be equally terrified and amazed. I feel like it might be one of those moments when we drop most of what separates us from each other in favor protecting ourselves from the unknown.
